Features of heat seal wedges:
Since 1977 heat sealable sandwich wedges have been the package of choice for convenience store and vending sandwich packaging.  When heat sealed with polyester lidding film each sandwich is hermetically sealed to achieve a tamper evident package that is virtually air tight.  Manual table top sealers will allow packaging speeds up to 12 per minute while automatic floor model sealers allow speeds of 40 per minute and higher.  This enables high speed production while ensuring quality seals and excellent optics and merchandizing appeal.  Since 1995 many sandwich producers have utilized modified atmospheric packaging (M.A.P)
Modified atmosphere packaging is a process where either the atmosphere within the package is removed entirely, referred to as vacuum packaging, or the atmosphere is altered, referred to as controlled atmosphere or gas flushed packaging. In each case, the objective is to extend the shelf life of perishable foods, while at the same time maintain or improve the quality of the product. Materials used for modified atmosphere packaging are a combination of different substrates. Packaging Sales & Service converts a wide range of substrates for this application using proprietary processes. The materials can be as simple as two-ply laminations or as sophisticated as multi-layer coextrusions, incorporating EVOH as a high barrier substrate.
